We’ve been disappointed to hear that Jim has decided not to race the Javelin anymore. The car has once again been repaired to an extremely high standard after sustaining significant damage at the Clipsal 500 round of the TCM in Adelaide early last year & with Jim scaling back some of his racing activities this year the Javelin is now quietly parked away under covers in his workshop.
Rule Changes within the TCM category to the effect of many new allowed modifications in addition to the inclusion of later model cars as well as the cavalier approach to the racing by some must make it very hard to justify running a car like his Javelin in this category of racing.
The last seven years has been a real blast for some of us while we followed the fortunes of Jim & the Javelin. We’ve seen the Javelin race all over the country & been trackside with them at both Phillip Island & Sandown; it’s been a fantastic ride, the pinnacle to me being seeing his first Javelin starting on the front row of the grid at Bathurst in its first outing there.
I need to add that over this period Jim always welcomed us into the “inner sanctum” of things with the car & always had the time to talk to us & even took us into his workshop which none of us would have ever imagined happening.
I’m sure we would all like Jim to know how much we appreciated this.
It would be a nice thought to think we’d see the Javelin in action again one day but then again it’s just as much comforting to know that the car is now being fastidiously & meticulously looked after.
Australia Day BBQ – January 2011
Jim & Bruce Tyson joined the members for a BBQ at the home of Craig & Sue Norling to meet up with the people that really knew about Javelins – other Javelin owners.
The afternoon was spent talking; you guessed it, Javelins and taking photos that would hopefully be helpful to Bruce whilst he was building Jim’s Race Javelin.
This was a very special day for those that attended. Jim & Bruce were relaxed and very friendly and happy to answer our many questions. Jim truly is an absolute gentleman and it was an amazing experience meeting both of them.
